Olympic gold medalist Mary Lou Retton is "fighting for her life" in the intensive care unit after contracting a rare form of pneumonia, according to her daughter McKenna Kelley.

Kelley posted on Instagram Tuesday asking for prayers and donations to help offset her mother's medical bills.
"My mom is in the ICU fighting for her life," Kelley wrote. "She has a very rare form of pneumonia and is not able to breathe on her own. She's been in the ICU for over a week now and is on a ventilator. We're asking for your prayers and support during this difficult time."
Retton, 55, is one of the most decorated gymnasts in American history. She won five medals at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, including the gold medal in the all-around competition. She was the first American woman to win the Olympic all-around title.

Retton's family has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for her medical expenses. The page has already raised over $200,000.
"We are so grateful for all the love and support we have received during this difficult time," Kelley wrote on the GoFundMe page. "Your prayers and donations mean the world to us."
